Mothers will often call their babies to ensure they stay close-by The game farm has white deer. The majority of deer are shades of light to medium brown. White stags are often described in myths, but they also exist in real life! We wandered around the deer park and frolicked with a pack of wide-eyed does.
These Mediterranean Fallow deer are as peaceful as they are beautiful. Then we visited the goat nursery and laid in the sunny grass as they climbed on us like rocks. Once the milk bottles came out, whoever had one in hand immediately became the most important visitor. Camels and lemurs and parrots and emus — oh my! But don't fret, they'll return when our Long Island temps start to warm up again. The game farm recently launched an artist residency program, Art on the Farm. Inaugural local artist, Karen Noack, has brightened up some drab animal enclosures with vibrant murals.
These backdrops are perfect for Instagram poses! The farm also shell-a-brated the opening of a tortoise sanctuary this summer, where these decades-old reptiles can retire in luxury. A family care station offers changing tables, a private nursing area, and a quiet place to decompress if you're feeling a bit of sensory overload. In addition, there will be arts and crafts, animal stories, sing-alongs, nature-related games and informative animal tours. This program is as exciting for us as it will be for the young campers.
The camp is the ultimate animal experience where children will learn in-depth about different animals and wildlife issues. Our mission has always been to offer high-quality fun and education to families across Long Island and Camp Zoo takes that concept one step farther by really getting the kids involved," said Melinda Novak, Co-Owner of the Long Island Game Farm.
Rates include all applicable taxes and fees. Campers will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is recommended that campers register early. The Long Island Game Farm can accept about 25 campers for each session of Camp Zoo; a waiting list will be established for the weeks that are filled.
Again this year, Camp Zoo is offering the position of Junior Camp Zoo Counselor to to year-olds who have completed at least one week of Camp Zoo. Junior Counselors will get the opportunity to educate younger children while learning more about their favorite animals and earning their Long Island Game Farm Junior Camp Counselor certification.
