Golf edition 30 remap review

Now for some fun, the throttle modulation feels different much more progressive. APR improved the throttle control when I got the updated v2. You can actually hold for example a small level of boost e. The engine inertia feels lighter as if flywheel has been lightened. I have a DEFi boost guage which has been invaluable for comparison without which my assumptions and feelings would have been wrong Driving cars back to back you would think "REVO more linear and pulls harder top end", but if you look at the boost levels the gap is even wider than it feels.

And so we get onto hardware protection mapping, basically VW's effort to protect your engine. Failsafes exist in the OE map, if the exhaust gas temperature levels get too high or maybe the airfuel ratio gets too lean then the ecu overrides any requests and tries to put more fuel in.

Much debate has ensued on various forums with it now into urban myth status, last time I saw any meaningful data was that both APR and REVO have protection mapping still present.

Whilst I believe them, you also have to balance this with how many REVO cars are out there and havent had issues. I try to be unbiased. I would have no hesitation recommending APR again where the individual wants support over ultimate hp for a local APR tuner.

Bottom line is, Ive tried it and it runs well and i loved it, and my car never broke. I prefer the delivery style and the sheer increase in acceleration, its a great product, my feelings seem to echo just about every other REVO user Ive spoken too. Straight-line acceleration and ease of three-figure speeds allows for uninterrupted sessions as only the fastest and most capable toys are able to overtake.

Standard suspension leaves a little to be desired on track, as do the OEM brakes which become somewhat useless after 3 laps at good speed. However, this car was never designed to even see a track, and thus in light of this, it provides exceptional fun for a cheap-to-run, fast road car. As with any track pursuit tyres and brakes are the real weakness of this car.

Even on the sticky michelins, a slightly overzealous right foot on corner exit can light up the front wheels and cause the car to push wide. All in all the Edition 30 is a great car, and a great run out model to the back-to-form performance of the Golf GTi that the MK5 brought with it. Do I miss the symphonic V6 in the R32? I would thoroughly recommend ownership of a well maintained example, as it really is a do-it-all car. I still have a yearning for an e46 M3 but every time I come to actually think about selling the GTi, I have second thoughts.

I really have never had a more dependable, fun, capable and comfortable all-round package. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. Revo Stage 1 Software No sooner had I acclimatised to the car, I was found looking for more power, especially knowing just how detuned this engine was from the factory.

A video showing the difference in performance can be seen below. I am going to speak to a few tunes and see what they think.

Cheers, Richard. As far as I'm aware they're all very similar save for a software update on the early cars.

I've not heard a figure of nm as a maximum mentioned, but I haven't heard of a box failure yet either. I will let you know my first impressions! Thanks to all for replies. Cheers, Litespeed. Biggriff 2, posts months. This is interesting as Superchips had problems with DSG boxes and their upgrades as reported on the uk-mkivs website. Try and see, but make sure you get a let out clause from the installer if the box struggles to cope.

H posts months. I never had any problems with the car at all. You could look at APR as well. These remaps give good reliable performance gains. You can have a number of maps installed and switch between them via the cruise control.

Takman 3 posts months. I have decided on a REVO upgrade as from my homework, appears the most suited to my needs. How's your car perform? I had a fairly sleepless night on Monday! I picked up a friend who has more experience of performance cars than me he is a former Tuscan owner who had a drive to test it in standard.

He showed me a little more of what the car is capable of and was impressed with the pull and grip compared to previous Golfs. John answered my questions fully and honestly and with a big smile on his face - he knew what was going to happen!

I asked for a good mid-range pull, gave him my keys and headed off to a nearby pub for lunch. I was back one hour later, a little apprehensive. John said he'd programmed it, tested it pulling around bhp and had a run and she was pulling nicely. With a big smile he handed over the keys. I idled out of Vagtech, turned left and headed off towards Stewkley. There was a little torque at low mph and then a superb incremental pull from 40mph upwards.
